A commission (My first ^^) for :iconwind-hover: Of Tails the Fox vs Cosmo the Seedrian  both from Sonic X.

When it comes to fighting women, Tails can't be beat (seriously).

Here's a story for this pic, courtesy of :iconzoradrifter44: , enjoy ^^

'Sonic the fighters, The Sonic Series' first fighting game featuring the cast of the franchise, including a new extra faces. Pretty popular at the arcades, and you even remember playing it most of the time whenever your mother gave you your weekly lunch money...Which you promptly saved to buy yourself some coins to play the arcade game.

Tails the fox, or Miles Prower, was your favorite character in the game, who couldn't deny playing as a cute fox, sidekick of the main character and, in future games, a young genius and scientist? Well, you spent most of your time playing as him, and you even beat most of the challengers that tried to fight against you with your virtual buddy, Tails. Each victory screen made you cheer out in victory, really satisfying whenever you won at low health.

Of course...It soon got old, and eventually you stopped playing, though you felt that some day there should be a Sonic the Fighters 2. And soon, that dream came true...In a rather different way.

Years later, you began to come back home from another tiring day of work, oh how you missed childhood. On your way back home, you remembered something...The good times you spent playing the classic arcade game with your favorite character, and, of course, the times you won at it.

It was still early...And you had nothing else to do when you got back home, so, you decided to take a detour, to head to the local mall of your childhood, you haven't moved from the state you lived in, which was good, due to you having some fond memories of it.

You parked your car, took your wallet, keys, and phone, then began to make your way, inside of the mall, it would be somewhere between...Six PM when you arrived and the time it took to arrive at the arcade store you have fond memories of.

It seemed to be in a well state, after all, it was quite popular with the kids back in the day due to it's huge selection of games that were available. From racing games, to better well-known games such as Street Fighter, it always had something for everyone.

You stepped into the store, and took a look round...Seems it was a slow, if not dead, day today. No one was in the store playing, maybe due to it not being weekend yet. You continued to glance around, there were some of the old arcades that you used to play, then...There's a few new ones that you don't remember.

You were good friends with the clerk of the store, favorite and most usual client after all, back in your childhood, so you decided to check if the man was still there, nd he was. Mr. Eddy, like you and your friends used to call him, was sitting on a stool behind the tickets desk, reading a newspaper, you approached him, and the words 'Hello' left your mouth.

He lowered his newspaper at the sound of the voice, and then a smile grew on his face. "Ah, it's you! Good to see you again." He said, the smile never leaving his face. "What brings you here?" He finished...You didn't exactly come to play the game, that wasn’t what you were here for. Mr. Eddy was known to be a game collectionist, maybe he could know..

"Excuse me, but...I recall that you collect games?" You said, perking over the door behind him, that connected to the storage, the old friend nodded. "Well...Is it possible that...You have managed to get a sequel to Sonic the Fighters in your hands?" You asked..He didn't reply.

"Oh? Sonic the Fighters? I do remember you playing that game quite often..." He said, a slight frown on his face didn't exactly give you much confidence. "Well...I do have a game..Not a sequel, but a bit different...It's something I won at an auction and I keep it as a relic, though, since you loved those games so much, I don't see any harm in letting you play." The kind man said, standing up from his stool and beckoning for you to walk around the stand to go behind it.

As soon as you did so, Mr. Eddy opened the storage door behind him, and beckoned for you to follow, inside...It was quite big, you took a glance around, scanning the area. All the old games you remembered were there, Street Fighter ,Virtua Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Double Dragons, and...Sonic the Fighters.

Nostalgia began to overcome your thoughts; you would certainly come back here once again in the future. But before you could dive into the realm of nostalgia, Mr. Eddy called out for your name, making your attention turn back to him, which he stood by the side of a machine...

Your eyes fixated on the front, a quite standard arcade screen, and a bit below, a 4-way stick, and three buttons, with the other side also having a 4-way stick and fitting three buttons, with a start button on the top, in the middle of the arcade machine, and a coin slot. Then, you looked up, your heart beated quickly as your eyes fixated on the name...'Sonic the Boxers'

"This little old machine has been here for a while...It was one of Sega's attempts to make their own version of Punch-Out, but they didn't publicly release it and only on a few places, I managed to snatch one of the original arcades, functional to the core...Though I can see by the glance in your eyes that you're not here for a history lesson." Mr. Eddy spoke, then began to step away, towards you, handing you a bag of coins before he left the room, leaving you alone and inside with the machine, his lasts words? 'Have fun'

As soon as the old man left, you focused your sight back on the screen of the arcade machine…There was a slideshow of the characters of the game, the classic sonic cast and…A few others characters that you recognize from other media; Comic characters such as Sally and Rotor, Manic and Sonia from Sonic Underground and Cosmo from Sonic X. You thought about it for a second, then it came to your mind, it was a nice marketing scheme to have the characters in a game, how they got the license to include the comic characters is beyond your own thoughts. What was a bit interesting, was the fact that they were topless…You didn’t mind it, though it makes you doubt why it’s like that…Unless it was a code left over by the developers as a joke that was found by the old man, questions for later, though.
As the slideshow continued, the words ‘INSERT COIN’ situated below the title of the game flashed once in awhile, right, you were too busy watching the little intro/slideshow to focus on what you were doing. You reached for the bag that was left by your side, and pulled out a coin, which you then inserted into the coin slot.

It took a bit, but then, the screen switched to a second screen, with vertical options signaling the different modes of the game. ‘ARCADE’ was on the left side of the screen, though you didn’t really have time to play the full game. ‘EXHIBITION’ was on the right side, which was split apart by a black line, and a sprite of the stick waving from left to right, as if to signal you had to choose using it.

You moved your hand to flick the stick to the right, causing the ‘EXHIBITION’ title to flash for a second and a voice clip of the announcer of the game saying ‘EXHIBITION’ with the most enthusiastic tone he could muster, before it translated you to the character select. You coursed your eyes through it, and stopped on the portrait of Miles ‘Tails’ Prower, you were quite surprised a punch-out themed game had a character selection, though the differences were mostly aesthetic between characters.

And so, you smashed the poor white START button with your finger, letting it choose your favorite character to box as, he wore Red boxing shorts, with white trims around the sides and belt-like part of it, his gloves were a matching red, and his boots kept the color theme going with red body and white laces, he looked older, too, maybe to avoid outrage from having an 8 year old beat older people.

And so, after your character has been selected, accompanied by a little animation of him raising his glove high, a bit below the screen, then returning to his orthodox stance after having been chosen, and now was time to choose his opponent.

Your eyes coursed through the various portraits, you needed to acknowledge the sprite art was quite amazing for a rare game like this. You thought about possible opponents while flicking your stick in the four allowed directions, Sonic was a first thought. Having Tails box and KO his best friend seemed tempting, but there were others that could also be your favorite fox’s opponent.
Eventually, you stopped flicking once Cosmo’s portrait was highlighted, with her own sprite coming up by the other side of the screen, opposite of Tails. She was topless, just like in the slideshow in the ‘INSERT COIN’ screen. Her…Shorts? Lower part resembled her floral design in the original Sonic X, a nice touch from the developers. Green and white was the fitting colors of the bottom part, that kept with that scheme over her boxing gloves, and her boots with the white-green floral theme still ongoing.

You didn’t think much about it, having Tails fight his, what you always thought they were, girlfriend in a boxing match sounded too tempting to let slip past. Thus you once again pressed the white button located near the top of the game pad of the arcade, making the portrait of Cosmo flash as her sprite did a few cheerful hops with a wide smile on her face, before stopping and adopting her boxing stance, similar to Tails’

After that was done, the screen then faded to another screen, with the words ‘STAGE SELECT’ on the top as music played in the background, that you were too focused on the characters to notice that it has been playing for a while. There were several rings to choose from, from various locations such as Metropolis City, Green Hill Zone, Freedom HQ, and other stages. You simply smacked the stick from side to side and pressed the button after it stopped on a stage reminiscent of an arena, of course there had to be one, ’MOBIUS STADIUM’ flashed on the screen, and then faded to black.

A sprite of Sonic doing shadow-boxing was on the bottom right corner as the words ‘LOADING’ flashed at times above the sprite. You waited for a little while, before the screen began to come back to. To the sight of the arena you chose, with the two boxers standing on opposite corners, you could see the sprites of the crowd and sound effects of cheering as it panned over to Tails, adopting a view behind and slightly up from behind the fox.

On the top parts of the screen were the portraits of both fighters, animated to boot, with them blinking once in awhile. Then by the side of Tails’ portrait were a score counter, and a bonus on top of it, with each having a zero by their sides, and on Cosmo’s side, from the left of her portrait was a timer, for now frozen at 3’00’00.

Your hand gripped the stick, while your fingers began to take their position on top of the two buttons, your gaming senses began to show as Tails began to leave his corner with his guard up, and in front of him, Cosmo stood, also in her boxing stance. A chao came by the side of the screen waving his cartoony circle for a hand, then the words ‘Fight!‘ in a speech bubble came from him, then he promptly flew off, with the sound of a bell ringing accompanying his exit.

The fight was on, the timer began to count down, as you hunched over to take a good look at the instructions that were on the sides of the cabinet while you waited, and at the sound of the bell, you focused back on the action. The CPU-controlled Cosmo shot out her left in a jab, which you replied by flicking your stick to the left, causing Tails to weave to the side, effectively dodging the jab. Then, you pressed down on the left button, causing the fox to follow-up his dodge with a left hook. A THUD! Effect came from the speakers of the cabinet as Cosmo was struck, her health bar lowering slightly from the punch, right, Tails wasn’t the strongest hitter.

You then began to hit the buttons with your fingers, causing Tails to alternate between left and right jabs aimed towards the girl’s body. Thud! Thud! Came from the screen as Cosmo’s sprite began to react from the punches, causing her to cough from each blow, with the sound effect accompanying it, and particles of spit going downwards, disappearing after a bit, not like you could see them landing with the camera being behind Tails.

Eventually, her stun disappeared and she put her gloves down as you began to stop smashing the buttons, causing Tails’ gloves to hit Cosmo’s for a few more times before he went back to his idle stance; The timer down by thirty seconds.

With two and a half minute left, you watched carefully as Cosmo stared towards Tails, eventually, she reared her left back, to send as a cross aimed towards the fox’s face. Your reflexes kicked in, letting you shove the stick down, promptly causing the twin-tailed fox to duck, then you hit the right button, making him rise back up, with his right up in an uppercut that nailed the cosmic girl in the chin!

Particles of spit flew upwards as her sprite’s head snapped back from the blow, her health bar lowering a bit more, and even further as you once again began to smack the left and right buttons, with the stick tilted forward, causing Tails’ punches to be aimed towards Cosmo’s face. Left and rights rained on the girl’s face, sending particles of a lighter blue, sweat, flying off with each punch that made her head recoil, at least, until she actually snapped out of her stun mid-barrage of your punches, and promptly dodged one of your jabs!
You watched in surprise as the CPU-controlled Cosmo then snapped off a right hook, nailing the fox in the cheek, causing spit to be sent from him as he then went back to his stance, a bit of his health bar down, though Cosmo’s was already by 75 percent. A minute has passed since the match begun, and you had done quite the damage; Seems like they got inspiration from the title defense of the Wii version of Punch-out, in allowing the opponents to dodge your attacks.
You readied yourself back up after regaining from the surprise, this was a punch-out based game, so you knew the opponents could everything that you could. And so, you kept the stick facing forward, thus having Tails have his guard up covering his face, while you thought of your next move.

Cosmo snapped jabs towards the guard, but Tails continued to block, then you made the stick return to its neutral position, thinking that this would let the CPU switch to attacking all-out, and it did.

Cosmo’s sprite took a quick dodge to the right, then began to come back, with her right out in a hook aimed towards Tails! You flicked the stick right down, thus causing Tails to duck right under Cosmo’s fist! A face of surprise, followed by the sound of a gasp came from the girl, which was then promptly struck as you smacked the right button to make Tails raise back up with his right out, promptly smacking Cosmo’s chin with it! Her head snapped back from the blow, and spit flew off, the satisfying sound effect of a loud THUD and the cheers of the crowd enticed you to begin smashing the two buttons to allow Tails to punch away towards Cosmo’s body. Left and right, you saw Cosmo’s health bar continue to lower as she let out coughs and gags from each blow to her body, particles flying off as you began to notice some bruising on her belly, battle damage? What a nice little addition.

While you smashed, you noticed the animated portraits react to the situation, with Tails still having his competitive look, but Cosmo’s sprite showing pain with each hit before returning towards its neutral competitive look. Then, she once again dodged by waving to the side, but you were ready. With her health at half the bar, and the counter ten minutes from reaching 1’30’00
Your left hand that was resting on the stick took action, as you flicked it right down once again! Thus making Tails stop his attacks and duck, as you continued to use your gaming abilities to take control of the match. You didn’t immediately hit a button, instead allowing Tails to fully rise before smashing away once again, with the stick pushed forward, thus making Tails’ jab hit away towards the vulnerable Cosmo’s face. Spit flew off with each blow as you smacked away at her face, after six hits, she ducked under your punches, but once again, you were ready.
Having discovered her pattern, you flicked the stick to the right, thus making Tails dodge Cosmo’s uppercut that was intended to hit, only for it to miss. She gasped once her third counter-punch missed, then began to grunt and spit out as Tails returned with a right hook aimed right to her face! You saw her face bruise a bit, and her eye to get a slight purple-ish tint to it as her health bar was nearing Zero.

This time, Cosmo returned to blocking once her stun faded off, making you stop smashing the buttons and rest your stick on a neutral position as Cosmo’s sprite began to pant from the damage, with her sprite flashing white at times to signal her being near-defeat. One minute was left in the match, as you watched Cosmo heave and have her guard up. Then…She ducked. You saw her lowering and quickly smashed your finger to the left button, causing Tails to send what would be another body blow, only to nail Cosmo mid duck! She got sent back to her feet, as she once again adopted her stunned stance, though this time, Tails’ portrait flashed! Your eye took a sight of the third button that wasn’t used until now, and promptly pressed it.
Cosmo recovered from her stun, and returned to her idle stance. The in-game sprite of Tails began to step back, with his right glove raising. Then, with a ‘RAAAAAAHH!’ Sounds effect, he snapped out a powerful right that countered the CPU Cosmo’s jab, instead letting Tails hit the girl with a diagonally upwards uppercut directly to her cheek! Her health bar instantly lowered to zero as she got sent off her feet, in slow-motion she crashed against the canvas, with the sound effects of intense crowd cheering playing as the previous Ref-Chao appeared on the screen again, with the words ‘KO’ in a speech bubble, then he began to leave, once again, with the sound of the bell. DING DING DING!

Tails’ sprite turned towards the screen, and raised his glove up high, just like with his character selection animation, then the screen turned a bit darker, as a score-counter began to appear, and the input name screen showed. You put the initials to your name, then the screen showed a ‘GAME OVER’ in red, then began to fade back, to the main title screen with the same slideshow playing, and the ‘INSERT COIN’ words flashing, you looked over at the bag of coins…You could muster a bit more time for a few more rounds
